Auburn University’s LeAnne Pace Burch Named Alabama Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society, Earl Norton Scholarship Recipient

Auburn, AL, August 20, 2004, Auburn University’s LeAnne Pace Burch has been named the Alabama Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society’s 2024 Earl Norton Scholar. LeAnne, of Mount Hope, Alabama, is the recipient of the $2,000 academic scholarship that will help her as she continues to pursue a degree in Crop and Soil Science from Auburn University’s Department of Crops, Soils and Environmental Science. LeAnne is a skilled soil judger, possesses extensive knowledge of soil morphology, genesis, and the crucial role of soil management in preserving and enhancing soil quality and conservation. She also works as a student researcher and has shared her research at many conferences.

Dr. Thorsten Knappenberger, Associate Professor for Soil Physics, Department of Crop and Soil Science at Auburn University, stated that “I am confident that LeAnne will emerge as a prominent figure in her industry. Her academic pursuits and involvement in various activities at Auburn University have equipped her with the necessary expertise to address the challenges of boosting food production while minimizing environmental impact to safeguard soil and water resources. I am certain that LeAnne will also be a champion of conservation”.

LeAnne says that “Conservation has always been important to me because I want to leave the Earth better than I found it”.

Ashley Campbell, President of the Alabama Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society said, “We were very impressed with LeAnne’s commitment to learning how she can play a role in addressing conservation issues and protecting the environment.

The Alabama Chapter of the Soil & Water Conservation Society offers a scholarship to one student enrolled in an Alabama college or university. Since 2010, the society has provided 15 scholarships to college students. The Alabama Chapter of SWCS fosters the science and the art of soil, water, and related natural resource management to achieve sustainability.
